This month I had a rather unusual request from one of my children's magazine clients. The issue was dealing with plate tectonics and they wanted an animated 'flipbook' illustration of the movement of the continents to appear at the bottom of the page, so that readers could flip through the magazine and see a little animation of how our continents move across the globe. This has been the closest I have come to doing animation for hire in my career, and it was both challenging and fun to try and make this work. I have recreated the effect here using Painter's animation tools and the 17 or so frames that the original 'flipbook' illustration was comprised.
